I am so shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of guitar legend Jeff Beck by bacterial meningitis of one of my fave guitarists since the 60’s. I’ve been a fan since he was lead guitarist in the Yardbirds. Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton were also guitarists for the birds.
Jeff went on to form The Jeff Beck Group with a relatively unknown Rod Stewart as his lead singer and Ron Wood in the group too. I used to go to every Rock concert in Toronto basically from 1964 to 1971. I got to see them play live in Toronto in 1969 at a small club Electric Circus on Queen Street East which was a Venus for City TV. They were incredible. We went back to their hotel at the Inn On The Park where all the rock stars stayed back them and Rod Stewart was a total jerk so my girlfriends and i left.
The album Truth, which I still have, is still awesome. Jeff played the classical Bolero kind of blew everyone’s mind.
When he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for the second time in 2009, Beck said: “I play the way I do because it allows me to come up with the sickest sounds possible.” “That’s the point now, isn’t it? I don’t care about the rules. “In fact, if I don’t break the rules at least 10 times in every song, then I’m not doing my job properly.” Sounds like an inventive rebellious Uranian kind of guy to me as you will see.
Jeff, in his perfectionist, humble way, never stopped improvising, collaborating and staying fresh. He worked with Jimi Hendrix and is equal and I think even greater than Eric Clapton. Jeff never had big commercial hits, as he was more interested ni being unique true to himself and original. He did it his way. He was a true musical devotee who preferred to craft meticulous intelligent music across many genres.
I was fortunate to be watching music teacher Rick Beato’s YouTube videos where he talked about seeing Jeff play recently and how he is uncopyable and mentioned that he was on tour. I checked to find that Beck was coming to Toronto in 2 weeks and bought tickets. I took my husband who also plays guitar to the concert.
Jeff never got into drugs in the 60’s which was an amazing accomplishment, making him stand out as his own unique man. He was a vegan and seemed very healthy and vital at 78.
Jeff played with two phenomenal female musicians, a bassist and drummer, and with Johnny Depp also appeared, was the icing on the cake. They just did an album together.
Jeff put on a tremendously enthralling, transcendental show. We were amazed. I have videos of the concert posted on my YouTube and will post the rest now.
At 78, Jeff was totally ageless in his agility. This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in years.
Jeff was also famous in the car collector world as he fixed many old antique cars himself, he must have had very strong hands as he finger-picked instead of using a pick. Jeff seemed so humble and down to earth, a regular bloke.
Let’s look at his astrology chart.
A sensitive nurturing Cancer boy Born June 24, 1944 Jeff had the reputation of being a genuinely caring man. There is no birth time so I have used NOON for a public figure.
Saturn at 0° Cancer conjunct Venus (and Athena) conjunct the Sun, indicates Jeff came into this world, an old soul, very serious and mature. Saturn Sun is very hard working and he may have had a difficult childhood with serious karma with his dad or mom or both. Saturn in cancer us limited emotions. Saturn is hard times and needing to be reserved emotionally.
Vesta and his North Node at 27 CANCER. He was meant to be a giver emotionally. He had no children and is survived by his wife.
He was a naturally self-expressive passionate STAR and KING with PLUTO conjunct the MOON and MARS and JUPITER in LEO.
A VIRGO modest perfectionist, very health conscious, detail oriented, earthy practical, organized man, with Chiron, the wounded Healer conjunct his AC, square his Uranus the independent, inventive-jeff is credited with inventing feedback in the Yardbirds Shape of things, a revolutionary, marching to one’s own beat, in Gemini which rules inventive, quick fingers, fast moving, thinking, easily bored communications sign.
Uranus in Gemini is on Jeff’s MC, his world career and reputation known being a youthful open minded, ever young, working with younger people, a collaborator, a charming merchant, and trickster, a dual natured guy. Mercury ruler of Gemini is well placed At home. Jeff had a dual nature and two loved, he was also well known in the antique collectible car community and rebuilt old antique cars by hand, Gemini is dexterous.
Jeff’s playing style is totally unique and according to music maven Rick Beato uncopyable.
Neptune the planet of creativity, imagination humility and surrender at 1°Libra trines his Gemini MC and squares his Saturn Venus conjunction indicating his serious love of music. Beck collaborated with the best. Stevie Wonder wrote Superstition for him but jeff insisted Stevie record it himself.
Jeff also co-wrote the timeless Shape Of Things which was the yardbirds first big international hit and is still fresh today.
Jeff’s chart shows all planets bunched up into only 4 signs. Mutable air Gemini, emotional sensitive Cancer, heart focussed, proud, dramatic Leo and earthy practical meticulous hard working Virgo with only the South Node opposing as it always will.
This is not a complicated chart showing an uncomplicated man, but is extremely focussed which you can sense from listening to Jeff’s work.
At his death
Apparently Jeff contracted brain meningitis a few weeks ago, and then deteriorated rapidly. Johnny Depp who he very recently collaborated and toured with visited his bedside and is devastated with grief. Depp and Beck released An album together and Depp went from his trial with Amber Herd to the UK to join Beck on tour. As if Beck was giving Johnny the Rick star musician kick he always wanted on that renewed success.
The astrology shows Pluto, Lord of Death and rebirth on Jeff’s South Node at 27° Capricorn This is a release from the body, career, his earthly mission completed. Pluto is inconjunct Jeff’s natal Jupiter, this was an unexpected heart wrenching situation.
Uranus the radical planet of chaos and change in Taurus and the North Node is square Becks,Leo moon which rules his Sun and his courageous big hearted Mars.
Transiting Saturn, Lord of Death, limits, seniors-Jeff was 78, endings is opposing his robust big hearted Expansive courageous Jupiter in Leo.
Neptune ruler of viruses, imagination, spirituality, dreams, creativity, surrender, source and endings is exactly square Jeff’s natal Mercury at 24° Gemini. Gemini rules the mind, and airborne things.
Jupiter, the fast moving initiator, adventurous, honest mystical teaching planet at 1° Aries is opposite Jeff’s natal Neptune at 1° Libra. This brain encephalitis came on Aries fast and furious, Aries rules the head and opposite Neptune is a mystery a virus, a spiritual essence.
Because his illness and death were sudden I feel jeff surrendered in the end but he had so much creativity he still wanted to share with the world, my feeling is it was difficult to let go. But I do believe he finally surrendered on peace knowing he would be jamming in heaven with Hendrix once again, David Bowie, Prince, John Lennon, Elvis, and all the rockstar greats.
Chiron, the wounded healer in Aries which rules the head squares Jeff’s Cancer sun.
Mars Retrograde in Gemini was sitting on jeff’s Uranus again indicated an unexpected head or brain injury, which sapped all his strength and resistance. Mars is sextile his natal Pluto in Leo.
I feel totally gutted by this unexpected death as jeff seemed ageless. The outpourings of accolades on Twitter and in the news lets the world know how revered and loved Jeff was. If you don’t know his work listen to Truth and continue on.
